Secretly Group is seeking a full-time Project Manager to work for the labels Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar, and Secretly Canadian. The position will be based in one of our US offices: Bloomington IN, Brooklyn NY, Austin TX, Los Angeles CA.

Ideal candidate is a skilled writer and communicator and should be proficient with Mac, Filemaker, and basic HTML. A knowledge of our artists’ work and the ability to effectively discuss music is essential. The ability to stay organized in a frenetic environment and work effectively in a group is desirable. A minimum of 2-4 years professional experience related to product management, artist relations, marketing, and/or promotions in the independent music sector is preferred.

Basic job description:
• Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for a dedicated roster of artists.
• Maintain and foster relationships with artists providing an active and available label voice/presence, even when artists are off cycle.
• Manage project budgets, sales goals, and campaign timelines.
• Oversee all elements of the record release cycle, including the creation of promo assets and marketing plans.
• Liaise with artist, management, internal label staff, and 3rd party team members (publicity, radio, booking agents, synch placement, distribution, remixers, video directors, etc).

You’ll be focusing on the Javascript/Ruby parts of our stack, and you’ll be joining a small team of music industry leaders and creative people in a fun, fast-paced, environment. We do two types of work:

  • Exploration, where you’ll need to prototype and experiment
  • Production, where you’ll be delivering straight-up production-ready code

When experimenting, you should be able work outside of your comfort zone and enjoy a prototyper/hacker mentality. When producing, you should have the experience to pick the best tool for the job and pair with teammates to put a plan into action. CS background or the equivalent level of engineering professionalism is a must. We don’t mess around.

You must

  • Have worked on a product (ideally consumer-facing) for at least two years, and have experience working within an engineering team
  • Have mastered another language that’s not Javascript. Ideally dynamic
  • Have experience with basic devops (ie. you’re comfortable using something akin to AWS and Linux regarding provisioning/deployment)
  • Care deeply about good user experiences and are a naturally curious person who tries out new products for fun and thinks about them critically

You should

  • Love the good parts of Javascript and wield advanced techniques with ease (and care), but you’re aware of its shortcomings as well
  • Have familiarity with/excitement for AngularJS; our application uses this heavily
  • Be strong in most of the following: Ruby, Javascript, PostgreSQL
  • Have written and maintained Ruby applications (preferably with Rails and/or ActiveRecord) in a production environment
  • Have software testing rigour and know the tools (eg. RSpec, Protractor, Karma)
  • Have knowledge of modern web application frameworks, including mobile-first, responsive design, SPAs and third-party APIs
  • Are comfortable prototyping new ideas and exploring new technologies on the forefront of popular culture
  • Have a strong desire to iterate launched features based on users’ adoption (or lack thereof) of said features

JOB DESCRIPTION

Following an ambitious international development plan, IDOL is now seeking a country manager to help expand its activities in the US.
Reporting directly to the Paris-based Head of International, the ideal candidate is a self-motivated and entrepreneurial individual with an extensive knowledge of the independent music industry. The candidate should also have substantial experience in identifying and developing new business and the opportunities within it.

Key Responsibilities

• Open and structure the US Office: find the right location, organize logistics
• Develop revenues from US-based labels: seek out and sign new US-based labels and offer them IDOL’s full range of digital technology and marketing services
• Manage or support relationships with US-based labels alongside the trade marketing and account management teams
• Support the activities of the company globally by providing local knowledge and contacts to the central business development team
• Work in close relationship with the Head of International

Desired skills and experience:

Experience:

• Substantial experience in sales and distribution and/or key account management in the independent music industry sector, with at least 3 years in a digital music business environment (distribution, retail, label manager, digital sales services etc)
• Extensive knowledge of the US music market and especially independent sector
• Excellent working network with US independent labels and management companies
• Office and staff management experience a plus
• Proven business development track record a plus

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for leading the commercial development team as the head of commercial planning, account goals forecasting, steering the sales team on implementing retail, digital and streaming sales/revenue, marketing strategies and goals.

Job Functions:

Primary Responsibilities
• Account Knowledge base – ensure knowledge base of all best practices, specs and opportunities across all commercial accounts
• Account Relations – Primary sales point of contact and lead on communications for all commercial accounts
• Category Solicitations/Promo Events – ensure that solicitations are routed via Manager, Comm Dev to labels for final approvals, price events are communicated and scheduled
• Bi-Weekly Projections Meeting – lead on setting Release Projections and marketing spends
• Metrics/Account Goals – lead on building projection metrics and account goals for Tier1&2 releases, across physical, digital and streaming categories
• Coop Marketing – Ensure label grids are applicable for each release prior to final approval / ensure that coop rate book is in line with account opportunities, in partnership with Coordinator, Comm Dev
• Key Title Report – lead on building, analyzing and reacting to weekly KTR report for priority releases through active cycle
• Target Tracker – lead on reviewing and reacting to weekly ship and coop target tracker, communicating holes to sales staff
• First Day/First Week Reports – lead on category sales unit information by account
• Weekly Visibility Report – contribute category looks to priority release visibility report

Secondary Responsibilities
• Task Tracker – discipline of use for category, adding/updating/closing all tasks entered
• Events Calendar – discipline of use for category, adding/updating all category events/artist visits/meetings
• Master Contacts – discipline of use for category, ensuring all category contacts/CRM are communicated for update
• Commercial Best Practices Primer – discipline of use for category, ensuring all category updates are communicated to label partners
• Bi-Weekly News Report – category contribution of account updates and market trends to label partners
• Business Review Snapshots – category contribution of high level findings/data from recent business reviews

Experience:
Must have a deep knowledge base of Caroline label roster catalog

Education:
Degree qualified or equivalent experience
